Bicton Primary School promotes a respectful, nurturing, and supportive environment.

Languages

At Bicton we have a specialist Japanese teacher who assists students to broaden their cultural horizons, intercultural understanding and sense of identity as they are immersed in a different language. Students are challenged, explore, investigate, research and question to ensure they are able to identify similarities and differences in their own languages and cultures.

A small snapshot of key focuses and strategies Bicton is employing to continue to build our Languages programs and pedagogy are:

  • Develop whole school cultural engagement in collaboration with other specialist curriculum areas to include a Japanese Assembly for Children’s Day (Art, Music, Library) and Cultural Presentations (Technologies).
  • Develop a lunchtime Japanese Culture club program that includes origami, anime, cooking and odori dance.
  • Collaborate with professional networks and SCSA to develop and trial moderated assessment tasks.
